A therapist on a mission.
A third of our lives are spent at work, and I want that time to be on your side.
Hi, my name’s Annie. My goal for you: less time fighting yourself, more time feeling in control, and more energy for what’s important.
When you're not spending all your energy just surviving the day, you get some back for everything else - time with the people you love, time for the things you care about, and time that's simply yours. A less anxious, more resilient you isn't just good for you. It's good for everyone who gets to see more of you.
Making time for what matters.
I love helping clients manage their anxiety so work doesn't take up all the headspace they need for the moments that make them feel alive.
For me, that looks like tying up my laces and hitting the trails with Dykes Who Hike, dissecting a novel at Queer Girls Bookclub, or enjoying a coffee after a session with Lez Run (yes, I’m gay).
In my daily life, I love to live by the seasons. I have different flavours of tea and Spotify playlists depending on where we’re at in the year. I celebrate the solstices and equinoxes and set myself a mini challenge for each season.
Mostly, I aim for a peaceful life with my cat, doodling every morning over breakfast and growing food in my little allotment space. I’m also majorly sensory seeking so my life features loud techno music where I can feel the bass, draping on heavy weighted blankets and eating food that has a satisfying crunch.
Understood through lived experience.
When I discovered that I was ADHD and Autistic, I went looking for a therapist who could help me make sense of what that meant. I found it difficult to find someone who was open about their own challenges. I wanted to know: are you going to understand what I’m up against because you’ve felt it too?
Leaving projects until the deadline, the frustration of bouncing between tasks, and the fear of crashing and burning if things go on the way they are… These (and many more) are all things I’ve worked through myself. We'll be using the same tools together in your therapy.
Of course, my lived experience will not be the same as yours. Your personal history and all the moments that made you who you are today mean you respond to the world in a way nobody else does (that's why there's no one-size-fits-all toolkit to therapy).
However, having lived through something similar myself means I already understand certain things - that constant sensation of never doing enough, wanting to make a real stamp on this world and navigating the barriers that make that feel impossible… The rest, I get to learn from you.
Working with complex trauma built over years of feeling ‘different’.
I am a Senior Therapist at the Trauma Clinic for the Power to Live Foundation. I support Autistic, ADHD and OCD clients with complex PTSD.
Trauma does not always manifest itself after one big event. Often what I’m working with is more complex trauma that has come out of growing up in unpredictable or overwhelming environments, or navigating a world that did not accommodate different ways of being.
A school in which perfection, sitting still, and being punctual were rewarded. A playground in which having strong opinions or wanting to do things differently was punished.
All of the rules we learn that still sit in our bodies today - and when triggered, create feelings of threat that make focus and clear thinking feel impossible. These responses make sense - and are what we work with in therapy.
My role also includes supervising trainee therapists using IFS, ACT and somatic processing. If you are a therapist looking for supervision, book a call to see if we'd be a good fit.
